LOVED the tangerine stanza. This is the FIRST thing I've read here in at least 3 months. Well done. A wee bit sappy, but the kind of sappy I'd be in if I were blue too. The hope that the beauty of a song would lift your spirits and rescue you from all that frustrates and bewilders. I love the anonymity of it, the not fitting in, reminds me of a lot....the promise that maybe things will turn around tomorrow....
I love the colour plays throughout - and then this stanza -
"Play me a song
one you play when you're dreaming
mango skies tangerine dreams
gold and orange
wish i were in his dream this night
my head on his shoulder" - nice!! strong images and feelings in this one - great poetry Chloe!
First there is conversation, that with, and by emotion changes turns into poetry, and prose, and when the spoken word will not suffice, there is song. Events can take that need from just talk, all the way to song..
Such as the events described in this poem.
That is what this poem says to me.
Reading this, I thought of David Bowie, one of my favorite singers n' writers, n' his stranger-in-a-strange-land themes. This is FANTASTIC STUFF!
(N' P.S.: I love the pink!!!) ㋡
Wonderful. I loved the 2nd stanza. I can totally relate to that. My friends say tat am from another planet. Here, my just an alien. Still made friends though.
The poem has a good rhythm to it. Could feel it.
I would sing it all day.
This poem paints a picture of a girl approaching the piano player in a bar somewhere and asking him/her to play a song to console the heart; get lost in the music to help her "fly far from here".
The reference to the sunset hues in the 4th stanza, shines a very pretty and vivid picture.
An excellent piece of work which conveys the sense of alienation, loneliness and longing with a tender and poignant touch. The structure and rhyme has an artful technique which serves to emphasise the feeling; and ironically rather like a song in itself. But this is indeed above that, and is true poetry. There is a powerful feeling of resignation through the forlorn loneliness, captured in particular by these lines:
"wish i were in his dream this night
my head on his shoulder
where i don't belong"
Perhaps when we hear a song, the mood of it takes us where we want to be, but also to where we feel we are - and that helps us to cope with the reality of our lives. Above all though, this poem is a cry in the dark; a tribute to that feeling of loneliness and isolation.
""please
play me a song
and do you
mind if i sing along"
Taken in context, these lines are a very beautiful way to end the poem.
Sometimes i feel like an alien in a strange land..can you relate?
I love people and friends are just that to me , friends-if you request me as a friend it would be nice if you read something I have .. more..
