Wounded

Wounded

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe
"

from an image born

"
The butterfly followed me
as I walked the path to work
swirling, dancing, twirling
such  beauty in flight

Where did you come from,
I asked ...did he send you here?
he told me when he kissed me
goodbye donned in his green cammos

Shed no tears
when you see a butterfly think of me
my dear I will be near

We walked together
 I walked he flew
we had a conversation about the Universe and
God on most we agreed

"Suzanne takes you down"...
hello, I say
urgent come home ... no,
what? come home ...
they say

Butterfly you have fallen
you are so helpless on the
cold gray concrete

Your wings won't work?
Please try, oh try
fly, fly
I fear if you don't fly away...

I pick the flutterby, butterfly up with care
home to see what dread
 awaits me there

Faces so grave..
Oh God what is wrong?
Is he          ?

No... !

His arms both are gone
he is on his way home...
tears falling falling
but he is alive ..

Like you little butterfly,
alive, like you
he no longer flies

"To a place near the river"...

This is a powerful write and reality for so many people. I had a friend hit by a IUD bomb thing while in his hummer and he was pretty messed up for a long time and never fully recovered but he did return to the army, brave soul that he is. I like how you used the butterfly in this one, it is one of transformation even thou this transformation lead to no arms to fly again. Powerful write.

A sad piece, and beautifully written.

nothing can feel better to a soldier, than the feeling of love at home, waiting for his safe return, even if the wounded is grounded, the love can still fly as free as the butterfly...LonelySoul

Yes there is much sadness within this piece but i also see hope in the way of faith, faith that we can overcome to matter how far down we fall. To me the ending suggest that when you can no longer go on the path you were on then you find another route.

I love the way you put Leonard Cohen in your poem so I hear his deep voice while I read the end to this sad story. Very well written.

A very powerful write! I especially love the open line in this part:
"I pick the flutterby, butterfly up with care
home to see what dread
awaits me there

Faces so grave..
Oh God what is wrong?
Is he ?

No... !"

Brilliant even though it is tragic and sad.

Nothing I have ever read about a butterfly has been more understandable, Chloe Across the Universe. I never paid much attention to Suzanne, until I listened carefully tonight, and I watched the Messenger just last night.
