Until Friday

Until Friday

A Poem by Chloe..Across the Universe

It is only till Friday I say
Count the days
1-2-3-4-5-
His voice like an angel

Don't cry, I say
I will call every day
It hurts to speak
My trembling voice

Ring, ring, ring
Hello, yes, he is ready
Will be there shortly
His smug voice

Daddy's on his way
His eyes look into mine
I see the tears
His sea- blue eyes

His hand in mine
We walk outside
He watches each passing car
His sad boy eyes

There he is , I say
I feel his hand tighten
1-2-3-4-5-
His little boy voice

I love you, I say
I love you too
Five days?
His voice echoes

Five days, I say as they drive away

Of all the loves in the world, the love of a mother for her child is the most selfless and unconditional of all...:)

This is so beautiful as I recognize this from my past... The waiting week, is such a painful aspect, as it always turns, and it's weekend soon... really stunning wording, and writing here!

Love that seperates is most painful, there is a volume to appreciate, it's sad, and also reveals life in ways that can't be taken for granted. I could feel the depth of the meaning here.

This poem brought back some of the most important memories of my own childhood. Powerful, Powerful work. Words can not describe what I feel.

ouch...As an adult....I don't want to know how that feels...I can only imagine. Better than the alternative I suppose. When I was a child..my father after the separation..became dead to me. I would have loved a week on and off with him...but he just didn't care any more.

no explanation needed. It is always hardest on the children. Excellent.

Very moving, very - I'm sitting here with tears in my eyes. You really expressed that pain of seperation, and how close you are to your child. The counting of the days expresses the longing so well, and lends to the way you break things down to your child when dealing with tough stuff. I remember telling my daughter how many hours til she could come home from her dad's for a visit, or showing her the days on the calender and you captured that perfectly. A wonderful write.
