The Black Angel

The Black Angel

A Poem by Paul Bell

The full moon rises giving light to the shrouded figures sat motionless deep within the woods
The Circle begins to stir
Strange chants in the dead of night give way as the Black Angel rises from her sacred grave
The Circle entwined, taking power from her inner being
A virgin is sacrificed
Or would have been
For this is Britain today
Where virgins just don’t grow on trees, woods or no woods
Totally disgusted with the lack of morals in Britain
She ups sticks
Directed by a powerful red light
She heads off to Amsterdam.

Love this. Clever turns and a lovely satisfying mic drop. I might have only one suggestion for aesthetic purposes to break up the larger lines at the natural breaks

Well, it changes not, it is a fine poem:)
This is a great jab in the ribs! I was so immersed in your deep-dark forest scene, I was thinking back to when I lived in this hippie commune type place & people really did do those kinds of dancing chanting circles by the full moonlight. Then of course your wicked humor has to go & slap me across my star-struck face. I would imagine it's damn difficult to find a virgin, what with the little floozies flaunting their stuff at a younger & younger age, thanks to twerking musical idols pushing standards lower & lower. I would give anything to have a fifth of your imagination . . . or a fifth of whatever you be imbibin'! *smile* Fondly, Margie

How interesting your Black Angel should think that Amsterdam offers a more moral solution. Certainly agree that there are declining morals over here, but I suspect no worse than other European countries. Maybe I've missed the point?

Just tongue and cheek, Christine. Actually, even that sounds rude. lol
Your disenchantment with the lady and politics sounds loud and clear.
Brasil is heading for Final round next week ... can only hope for the best, even when the out come isn't what one expects!
