The Chosen One.

The Chosen One.

A Poem by Paul Bell

The sex was unexciting as it was unimportant

Like the silk red knickers

That didn’t really define her

Or the cross chained around her neck

That didn’t protect her

He sensed she was more broken than him

Strange how broken people come together

Awkward pieces never quite fitting

Just clinging on

He felt this would be his last time on earth

Time had picked him as it had picked the ones before

He was ready

She sensed he was different from the others

More dangerous, but not to her

The scars on the outside only hidden by the scars within.

She also felt the death sign

But that was her calling

The chosen one

He watched her sleeping

Finding comfort in a strange way

Something caught his eye

The small mark on her skin

The sign of the sacred sisters

He felt humbled in her presence

It was time

Death was waiting

He walked to it gladly.

In the depths of despair...two doomed souls drink of the blood of the damned! What a piece!Could he, would he predict and accept what fate had in store? Moving piece

Good chuckle Ta Paul!
Great mood stuff
I see two of life's dregs in a backstreet bottom end rooming house going through a now meaningless routine, in a last effort to squeak out a doomed modicum of pleasure as they fade away together, slipping down into the underworld.
Or were they going down to Timmy's for coffee and Tim bits afterward?
I dunno, Can't figure these things out sometimes

Think I wrote it in Timmy's coffee bar.
OH MY....poetry noir for sure! Yes, damaged souls find one another and sometimes cling to one another too. This sounds like a murder in the making. Very mysterious and dark. Well written, Paul. Lydi**

The way of the world, Lydia.
Wow, incredible read, outstanding images inside my mind's eye. I could not get enough of this tale.

Right, Dawn, remember how the tale ends. Don't get drawn in. lol
This is so abstract and sinister Paul. Also mesmerizing and intriguing. Great noir, b&w with splash of red about it. Staccato lines filled with seduction and death. Exotic and lethal. Paradoxes and dangers. Yin and yang. What is the “sign of the sacred sisters” my friend? What is it that draws one to the consuming flame? Packs a wallop for sure!

Life is always short in the trenches.
Your poem has ominous feel to it. It starts out like encounter of two lonely people, then you introduce an element of surprise, spiritual like sentiment... and he is in peace with his lot.

I suppose in a way it is a bit spiritual. Probably dropped a bible on my foot.
you captured something very real here. the empty sex and feelings that come from it. or lack of feelings that then lead to personal despair and unhappiness. many of us reach that end point and are ready to move on. there's some darkness here, some mystery that I can only guess at.

I was trying get all supernatural. Don't know if I made it.
damn this is good...so mysterious---so uplifting even though his time was limited, she gave to him maybe strangely, but unselfishly...knowing without knowing of his fate...
reminds me a bit of "the boy with the moon and star" from Cat Stevens...
a gift given...even though the puzzle looks off with the broken pieces...they fit the best they can in the moment.
