A Poem by
Sharon Miller Bolander
Have you ever judged someone based on what others have said? This poem reflects on just such a circumstance.
A fence once stood twixt you and me---
A fence so tall I dared not see.
Alas, that fence hid quite a view---
A view few people ever knew.
One day a hole bored through the wood
And, scared, I froze right where I stood.
I wondered who dared mar that fence
And leave a hole as evidence.
Today I peeked right through that hole
And saw your lovely, caring soul.
Twas not what I'd heard to expect
As I recall in retrospect.
How sad I am I did not gaze
Much sooner through cold rumor's haze
To see the truth with opened eyes
Beyond the fence of rumor's lies!
A lesson learned I shan't forget
Is that we might have never met.
A rose grows lovely midst the thorns
Of boggled minds and people's scorns.

this was fantastic, lovely to read, flowed very well.. beautiful rhyming scheme that added to the rhythm of the words... and such a simple yet valuable lesson within the words.
