It

It

A Poem by Mr. Nemo
"

It - Whatever relates to you.

"
The most hated presence in all of mankind.
Because of what it releases.
What it reveals.
The inner truth
That we so gracefully ignore,
ball up and hide from everyone.
From ourselves.
It's what causes the obvious ignorance in us.
What reveals our true thoughts.
Causes the conflict within ourselves,
causing to lash out at others because of your own disappointment.
Our own resentment of us.
We choose to neglect the reality.
And this only draws us closer to it.
It gives you a second to ponder,
to recognize,
to lead into shame.
To unleash the realization of wrong doings
and to capture the guilt.
To not be able to handle this,
means not being able to handle yourself.
So you desire for it to diminish.
You crave the one thing that will drown it.
Drown it out so you can once again live with yourself,
for what feels like an eternity.
Repetitive false truths,
to cope with the pain
of who you truly are.
Forcing to embrace yourself.
Forcing one to accept.
To accept and progress.
Without it,
the weight of the chip
is one thousand times heavier.
With it,
you will never be alone.
But only if you look past the teaser
and into behind the scenes.
You.
Will.
Understand.
You will overcome.
But only if you are willing.
To fight the urge of destroying it,
deafening it,
and leaving it to willow away.
Only if you are willing.
To accept it.
To embrace and give it your offerings.
Choose not to run.
Choose not to become distracted purposefully.
Because it will wait.
It will wait.
It will wait until the moment is right.
When it is not expected
and you suddenly realize its presence.
To continue to run
is the most regretful decision.
But the most chosen one.
and as the path becomes broken and worn down.
You will desire it.
It will be required to persevere,
demanded to live.
This.
This moment is when it slowly drains away
into an abyss.
Into nothing.
Where it will never be reached again,
no matter how much you ache and dread for its presence.
It is limited with an endless supply of need.
Of want.
To a point to where the path is finally broken,
and it is all you receive.

I like the concept a lot. I especially like the fact that "it" is open to interpretation that is individualized for each reader. My only critique is that it seemed a little choppy in places, which could really just come down to formatting. Looking forward to more!

I wonder if I might ask what you did have in mind for the "it"? What is "it"? And yes, up to interpretation, I understand that, even so I found myself a little lost toward the end. I felt some disagreement in what you were saying. Some ideas that seemed to be against each other in describing the same "it". Very nice in much of the poem, truly, I do like it, I just wonder if some of the words are unnecessary and perhaps just filling up lost space, and never edited out
