"

......a not-so-simple people

"

Stavanger, Andalesne et al

Like the snowmelt falls above them

                   they approach pure, these Vikings.

                   Not surprising, considering

                   their souls are washed

                   by a slant of rain

                   with a regularity

                   matched by their living.

                   The fjords afford them

                   an escape they never take.

                   Anorak capes

                   have replaced unhorned helmets,

                   their heads cloaked

                   from the wrath of Thor

                   in Harald`s new kingdom.

                   We, the invaders now,

                   come in giant white galleons

                   seeking their mountain peace.

So nice to see work from you my friend. First of all I'm glad you didn't put horns on the helmets.
This is deceptively complex with several threads beyond the Vik. You know I love the whole history angle but I am also caught with the message hidden here. Excellent write.
