slipping past first impressions

slipping past first impressions

A Poem by Phibby Venable

There is a place that sells beer,
makes music, drops to a whisper
at two a.m.
and everyone becomes a wanderer
on the dance floor
where a light turns overhead
throwing soft strikes
into the warm dark
of arms entwined into
a universe of two

There is a plank porch outside
to watch the moon
which is hanging heavy, red-faced
and still at so many expectations
There is a whole world
of girls consuming kisses,
lit beauty in freed faces
Robberies of reputation,
slow words so quiet they lose them
The small town of mutual longings
paling invisible by morning

Such a long night.

But morning thinks nothing of that.

The sun stays busy

finding crystals on the new buds
of trees. The mountain sits blue,

but yellow is spreading

in glistening gold strikes.

P, such beauty expressed. The magic of words expressing emotional experience at a crystal pitch. And I should have just said, you left me speechless.

Gee
Took me back to my 17, 18 year old self. Disco balls, slow dancing, chasing the girls with the long ago lost reputations.
You write beautifully, reads oh so easily and I'm more than a little jealous of your gift

Wow! I've been to this place. And you discibed it to a T. Thank you for the memory. You made my night.

what a great description and it made me recollect a couple places like this...where we danced and talked and kissed long into the morning.
