A Hermit Mimosa

A Hermit Mimosa

A Poem by Phibby Venable

A Hermit Mimosa

Summer and the mimosa
appears in an overhang
of vague beauty.
There is the subliminal hint
of white in her hair.
A dozen trees pressed close.

Sometimes the wind lifts
a pink strand of curl.
Her fragility,  small antennas,
of pale music notes.
Sometimes a warrior oak
shakes his hands free of moss,
but she is the mimosa
with her head afloat.
