A Woman Buying The World

A Woman Buying The World

A Poem by Phibby Venable

A woman buying the world rolls peacock eyes

upon the packages and points to this and this

She opens her flexible lips and gnaws

the pink delicacy of her middle finger

It is a tedious trip and she is tired of shopping

Once she is home the world takes a bad turn

Out of the bright lights and shiny displays

the world looks old to her

She plucks at the no return no exchanges

slipped on at some point by the dealer

I love the imagery, craft, and meaning in your work. It is spellbinding.

There are a lot of things brought home that we soon wish to return, and they're not all from a department store. They may all come concealed inside pretty wrappers, however.

How satisfaction wears off once you have the want has been oft quoted but rare is such a witty and eloquent presentation of it.You said so much with such ease..thank you.

It is probably somewhat obvious to say that life comes with significant helpings of buyer's remorse, but the sentiment has rarely been presented so eloquently and elegantly.

This can relate to many things in life that we want something so bad but when we have it the satisfaction is temporary.

She is all in all. She is the crown jewel of Worldliness. Lovely metaphor for the mystery that resides in many of us. The hole in the heart is never quite filled, is it?

Wonderful metaphor here. Although I'm sure I'm not qualified to discuss Retail Therapy.
