As The Light Poured From the Clouds, I Swear I Found God

As The Light Poured From the Clouds, I Swear I Found God

A Poem by Placenta

Wandering hopelessly through life's largest caverns

I saw you alone, standing in the backwoods

with treasures untold, you held them so tightly.

They were neither gold nor jewels aplenty.

Hope filled the air as you told me your stories

about how hard it was, but that life was not only

hard work and pain, there was something more lovely

than any amount of money they lent me.

Jaw-dropping beauty, I'm stunned by the honesty

and how you opened your heart up so very easily.

I couldn't stop staring, I couldn't take my eyes away

from all the words that spilled out on that rainy day.

As we both talked, and as we conversed

the light over head appeared and chased out the worst.

the darkness is faded, though it's never gone

but with my new treasures I feel like I can be strong.

As light poured from the clouds, I swear I saw God

and for once in my life

I felt like I finally belonged.
