The Encouragement of the Flower

The Encouragement of the Flower

A Poem by Melinda McQueen

The Encouragement of the Flower

Grey clouds filled the sky,

Dark and heavy,

Hiding the shine of the sun,

No light to be seen.

The flower was without hope,

For it was discouraged by the lack of sun.

It couldn’t see the light for the clouds,

Feeling its life was done.

Then it began to rain,

Refreshing its dry soil.

Though feeling a bit better,

It still felt the gloomy toil.

The next day a little girl

Came skipping along.

Stopping to admire the flower,

She sung a song.

“What a beautiful day the Lord has made,
For I have found the prettiest flower of all.

Though the sky is grey,

This flower stands tall.”

Upon hearing the little girl,

It sprouted even more under its power.

As the light from the little girl was

The encouragement of the flower.
