Letter from a Haunted House

What the walls would say...

To Whom Comes Next,

I should like to take this preemptive measure to first and foremost explain that those things which you shall experience are not entirely my doing.  I am not a bad house. I certainly never intended to be put to ill use. Alas, the past cannot be undone, nor can it be unheard. A pity that it may cause further unraveling, including your own.

Perhaps, if you are particularly sound sleepers, you may remain blissfully ignorant of the midnight escapades regularly occurring within me.  I might humbly advise a healthy draught of mulled, dark wine saturated thoroughly with powdered Valerian root. It has been known to induce a seeming dead sleep, so to speak.

Should you be determined to not suffer the fog of mind and upset of system that might accompany such sleep inducement, then I offer my most sincere and humble apologies for the outrageous shenanigans you must endure through the long night.  I encourage you to seek regular respite at the local boarding rooms so that you may acquire some semblance of sleep and rest, perhaps a weekly holiday from myself and your estate. Peaceful slumber can mollify a myriad of somewhat relentless and generally harrowing events experienced during the witching hour.

I fear I have nothing further in way of counsel to offer, sage or otherwise.  You shall soon arrive to call my halls your home, and that is as it shall always be.  Once you deliver your person to me, I shall endeavor to take utmost care with it. Your faith and trust are duly appreciated and I shall look forward to serving you faithfully until such time as you die.

Most sincerely yours,

The Walls

Samhain is in the air and my heart turns toward the great tellings of gothic horror. I thought I might add the perspective of the haunted dwelling.

I thoroughly enjoyed this. The idea to hear the walls talk is a nice change from the ordinary haunted house story. Your diction is impressive too.

Great story. :)
