Goddess of Spring...

Goddess of Spring...

A Poem by Yellow Butterfly
"

~Persephone~

"

The season is here where the flowers bloom and birds sing

A time to remember the Greek mythical Goddess of Spring

Wearing her floral coronet upon her pretty head

An enchanting beauty ripped from her flower bed

Flowering bloom now a forlorn figure trapped below

Amongst the stories of the dead filled with sadness and sorrow

Abducted and taken to the darkest depth of the underworld

Bequeathed to the prince of death that is what the stories told

Soon she became known as the Queen of the damned

Ruling the underworld and often returning to her mother land

On her return she would feed and cultivate the earth

Reminding everyone of her Mystical Divinity and of her worth

Happy Easter! I love when a poem teaches me something about other kinds of literature, mythology, you name it! You tell this in a straightforward way that sounds like "you" (unique, conversational) yet it tells a fairly complete version of the original story for those who don't know it & lots of readers appreciate not having to google it! We've had hardly any rain in the past year & the California wildfires will be bad again this year . . . this is when I feel there must be a demon of the damned, trapped in the underworld! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

That poem is not what I expected from the title. That is what makes it awesome.

Thank you...glad you liked it.. :)
well, at first i thought of Lilith, but no....has to be Persephone, who has to live in the underworld with ...yeh, well, let's not go to hell. beautiful write, full of blissful imagery and undertones of darkness which make this quite the Dali painting in verse....wonderfully done , dear Butterfly....kudos and bows to you!

A great tribute and a fantastical way to think about spring, as a goddess, your lines are rich and flowing. This whole piece is very imaginative and original and at the same time it has a classical feel.

I appreciate the picture and this writing, it really hugs the meaning of the Goddess of Spring. Besides, spring speaks a lot of possibilities and new beginnings. One thing that composed your well written imagery (:

I always enjoy poems about springtime... you have one line that really jumped off the page for me, "Flowering bloom now a forlorn figure trapped below". If we could just remember this in our own seasons of "winter"... I know you have helped remind me today.
Well done!

Ah, beautiful Persephone... she is the rebirth of our very souls. You breathe a delighted song here that calls me to the warmth of spring's sweet caress.
