NightHawk

NightHawk

A Poem by Jennifer Pennington
"

NightHawk definition: A term used to explain thoughts that don't come to mind until late at night...

"
In these moments
minutes
seconds
and hours
I feel my stomach turn
And curdle
And sour
I listen to a song
I watch something on TV
I see a girl that looks like you
And im flooded with memories

All I wanted was for you to be
Alright...
I would have done anything I could
Day or Night
All I wanted was to hold you
Tight...
To keep the promise I made
And win the fight
For you...

But I lost
Now you've got me confused
The chatter around you grew louder
Than the songs we sang together
The images they painted of me
Were closer and clearer
Than I was allowed to be
They made sure of that

(Bad Influence)

That's what they said
That's what I am
And its moments like these
When I have cookies in my hand
That I miss eating them with you
And I regret not baking them more
I regret being so tired from work
And not playing enough when you got bored
I regret not being the sister
You looked up to me to be

All I have left of you is a picture and a video
And a heart that's trying not to scream
I'm feeling so tired
So exhausted in every part of my being
But I'll still keep going
I'll still keep breathing
Just on the hope that one day
You'll come back
And tell me you never forgot

Who I was...

Memories like these that dwell on regrets are difficult to shake but as long as hope recalls our good memories there’s always a chance for a reunion
