In The Glow

In The Glow

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver

Beeswax candles release
such an intense glow
that warms my tired vision
as I listen to a familiar song
that makes my heart heavy
not sure why I listen to it
it places me right back...there

I watch the bubbles dance
in a glass of numbed emotion
and reminisce the past
been a long haul
I say to myself
looking at the lump in my right wrist
a protruding, ugly cyst
just another obstacle to overcome
not yet, just not yet
I plead

I need to be stronger
always telling myself that
tomorrow or the day after
truth is, there is only now
I am a fool unto myself

The bubbles maintain their dance
as the song is repeated once more
candles release a hazy glow
I'll focus on their warmth for a while
where the hell does time go...

The melancholy of the reminiscent as tender images are laid in this writing. Endearing it is the candle that evokes a melody of days gone by with heavy hearts. As well a reflective side pondering about the challenges of past present and future, as the recognition demands strength of character, but in the meantimeto the task at hand which is to dance to the melody of melancholy which is ever so sweet and enticing.

Cheers to that.

Thankyou

Another deep metaphor, with ephemeral flames signifying happiness as tiny moments in our long lives. Beautiful!

It always amazes me how those bubbles are tiny capsules of times gone by. This has a lovely introspection. You write with such feeling and deep thought. Beautiful. Penny

The poem had a calm and serious feel to the poem. Sometime we must stop and think. Thank you for sharing the excellent poetry.

Wow this one was so powerful. I could feel the fear and despair seeping through the computer screen. And the beeswax candles was a great way to pull people in. They have such a distinct smell and look to them, it is hard not to get lost in the scene. (Also a wonderful song choice.)
