Poised

Poised

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver

Geared and ready
deep breaths
honey in tea

Red button alert
poised to record
swarming thoughts

Yet one line
circles in her mind
when the summer comes

She pauses
gathers momentum
inhales honeysuckle

To be alive
like the flowers
she cherishes

To be as colourful
as the petals she touches
so tenderly

A dream
within a void
emptiness is a state of mind

I see the creative process at work here - the writer, the voice recorder, the larynx coated with warm honeyed tea and the beautiful scent of honeysuckle leading to the flash of inspiration - a line - like Hansel and Gretel's bread trails, the line must be followed to get 'home' to where the heart of the new creation dwells - and then O.R.M.E. have a wonderful new baby in their reportoire.
Cool writing Poppy. Very well described and eloquent. The spoken word version on FB is very cool indeed.

What a wonderful imagery is presented here, so vivid and colorful... very poetic and contemplating.

The way you broke the poem into relevant lines each linking to other and giving a series of vivid images. The clearing of throat by tea and honey. Then pausing.Stream of thoughts then gaining momentum and dreaming of the emptiness. You described it in a poignant way.... No matter how poised we show ourselves to be our minds are always excited and wandering.... into an unknown land. :) *keep writing*

We're always poised whenever we're anticipating something...interesting sentiment: it's the first time I've ever seen it implied anywhere.

Nice. Amazing how one line can take over. I contemplate the thought while watching my french press coffee.
