Gaia

Gaia

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver
"

May the earth heal in love and light ~ Blessed Earth Day ~

"

Long ago
I surrendered to you
as my only Mother
with full knowledge
humanity had violated
your beauty in countless ways
you accepted my prayer
with effortless grace
now, to feel your veins
flow with less ease
see your limbs
severed coldly
feel your heart
beat erratically
suffocates me
your lungs
no longer breathe
deeply
your tears
no longer flow
freely
forgive the blinded
for they do know
they have wronged
myself included
with hands earthed
on your gentle body
my soul seeks forgiveness
for the merciless harm
that has tainted your flesh
scarred your charms
long ago
I surrendered
coiled safely
in your branched arms
now, to know you suffer so
would disturb the calmest crow

In nature we find all forms of soul cleansing
and nothing does that ...... not like this beautiful earth

If only all humanity understood that
there would be no damage
no destruction

Earth gives us all
and we give nothing in return
or never enough .... the least be appreciation !!!

i enjoyed this piece

Very true words frnd, the way we have treated and still treating our mother earth is really a shame on humanity.... We took everything from her and returned her only pain... This is such a true and very thought provoking piece of tribute to our planet... The time is not very far when the only planet of this universe where life exists will be dark without any life....

Sincerely,
Dhiman

Andrew, thank you, I really appreciate that :)
Nature's love for us was and is incomparable. She kept giving and we kept taking, to the point of wounding her, in some ways, irreversibly. Your words touch my soul and I hope they reach our future generations. ❤

He has indeed...thank you wordman :)
to know a heart beats are not eradicate...
I wonder what that does- when we breathe that heartbeat in for life.
the earth's oxygen...

interesting- i'm not a huge environmentalist-but this piece was touching and thought provoking.

Thank you very much :)
we just abuse and abuse mother nature to no end...can she forgive us once more?

seems she has often in the past...we are relentless, and she is limitless in giving to us nonetheless.

Thank you Jacob :)
We need to take care of the earth. Once it's gone, then what?
We're partway there but have such a long way to go. It's poems like yours that help to raise people's awareness of the gravity of the situation.
I especially liked the final 2 lines:

now, to know you suffer so
would disturb the calmest crow

Yes our earth needs more...yet this brought back sad memories of my own mother as her health and life failed. Valentine
