A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver

For all the wise witch in me
as much as I am Shiva's daughter
I still voice the soulful Ave Maria
somehow it is embedded in my soul
perhaps from a Catholic life
lived out so very long ago
for all the wandering gypsy in me
as much as nature is my eternal home
I still voice the soulful Ave Maria
somehow it is rooted in my heart
perhaps to cast out despair
for all the Goddess in me
as much as I am part of the Gods
I still voice the soulful Ave Maria
suppliant in such a prayer

This is very creative & original. I like the progression from "witch" to "gypsy" to "Goddess." I also love this song, which I sang in choir many times, many years ago, but the song really stays with a person, just like the way you've stated it in your message. I'm always admiring writers who juxtapose dark & light aspects of life, which you've done nicely here.

Thank you :)
This thought provoking work. I enjoyed the layers of depth and the experience of oneness in the words. It gave me a feeling of many aspects of life being not the same but not different.

Funny how things we heard when young stick with us even though we have grown beyond them. Valentine

Thomas, many thanks hon :)
I love the tone of the poem. Despite all, there is deep influence of Catholicism and I think It should influece your writings. Well written.
