Brittle Seconds

Brittle Seconds

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver
"

"Somewhere in the back of your mind child, you don't have time anymore." "Time" by Chameleons

"

Each ragged
jolted tick
monotonous tock
too loud
I woke
screaming silently
at dawn
the sunrise
gently exhaled
for me
all breath
had left
my body
from nighttime
traumatic terrors
which bled
through blurred
dizzying daylight
each jagged
restless tick
repetitive tock
though aggressive
and crushing
reminds me
I'm alive
I'm alive
a chance
to walk
my path
mine alone
a chance
to survive

we sometimes get so weighed down by our problems we don't want to wake up in the morning, we would rather just float away with our dreams...but there is something about a new day, a new dawn...that finds us feeling rejuvenated, ready to face it all with confidence that we can actually make things better.

Darkness, Injury, trauma and a loud clock are not a perfect combination. But the poem is with its vivid imagery and intense emotions.

It's great to feel alive but it's even greater to know one has the courage to walk the path alone. It makes this poem stand out for me so very much, dear friend.

Can't relate too much poetry from others, but I felt the daunting and repetitive nature behind me.

Well done.
