Reaching For You As Time Caves In

Reaching For You As Time Caves In

A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver
"

"Of all base passions, fear is the most accursed." William Shakespeare

"

The universe sang tonight
I can't explain the sound
somewhere between sleep
and wanting chocolate
I remembered three words
from an ominous article
I read with morning eyes
Global war approaches
I can't comprehend
such times of death
before I touch you
I can't fathom
that could happen
before I whisper
I love you
the universe sang tonight
I can't explain the sound
somewhere between needing sleep
and craving dark chocolate
I yearned for you more
fear is an invasive beast
shameless and reckless
but then media hype cares not
for the sensitive in a harsh world

Per usual, a very tender write.

I like the three words italicized

Global war approaches

It really creates discomfort in the reader, which is later juxtaposed with other three words

I love you

That is why I think this poem should end with

I love you (also italicized to make the connection).

I would throw out these two lines

but then media hype cares not
for the sensitive in a harsh world

It's a bit editorial, imo, and the "global war approaches" really encapsulates the fear mongering of the media.

That's just me though.

I like the setting . Global war approaches but all the narrator is thinking about is much more intimate and small, like a kiss or chocolate.

And naturally, love Portishead!

You're welcome!!!
my god Poppy, I love how you wove these words from the shorter version I read into this plea for the world to change.. into the "fear" of not being able to touch and tell them "I love you"... TIME, a word, a concept, a feeling of not having enough of it to live to be happy... such melancholy, such longing, such a fukin good poem and expression... and the music, with it is steady beat adds to the art you have created... Poppy, you are just friggin awesome in the words that you write...

And you dear heart, are an amazing soul...thank you so very much...much love x
beautiful Poppy ...deeply felt and slowed my heart down as i read .. so to listen with both ears ...and your pivotal closing touches and almost makes one weep at the scene you paint ..i think this is one very important poem ..should be out there for a much larger audience ..well done says i!

E, thank you sweetheart, I really appreciate your thoughts, mean a lot, thanks love :)
the media has to sell, and uses cunning ways to manipulate the audience, just look at the coverage of the Kardashians, over rated and for many who gives a toss! Nice write Poppy

Fear between the cravings that seldom satisfy for a season- chocolate or sleep doesn't satisfy

So true, thank you Bacchus :)
media most certainly does not care. only about viewership for them. Shakespeare was right, fear is a very powerful emotion indeed wreaking havoc. a good thought-provoking one P.R.S. like how you presented it. clever title. nice touch ...

Thank you Pete, I really appreciate your thoughts :)
The media is insensitive to sensitive people. They care only about ratings and creating mayhem to increase their viewers. Love and caring take a back seat in this harsh world. You have touched on it marvelously...:)...............
