A Poem by Poppy Ruth Silver
"

“Meanwhile in my head, I’m undergoing open-heart surgery.” Anne Sexton

"

I sit looking at a piece of rock
that was brought home from the ocean
though quartz has naturally been etched into it
by Mother Nature's ebbs and flows
I remain unmoved by its energy
until this point in my surreal life
such things have always moved my soul
now natural beauty of the world seems tainted
for I hear the drums beat louder every second
war cries viscerally screamed by the hour
children seem more lost than ever
adults function on auto pilot
simply to survive another day
we have dissolved into nothingness
yet we are everything in-between
we tread within a limbo of sorts
faith is weakened if not void
if this realm is illusion
where does that place our souls
in what seems an unforgiving cycle
the heart broods tonight
melancholy slithers ever closer
though swifts bring fractals of light
perhaps there are no saviours
shadows calculate
maybe there's only a pause
to reflect and recall
darkness woke long ago

Damn, Poppy, bringing the thunder and doom... I sat unmoved by its energy... Auto-pilot strife... Illusions and realm madness... Absolutely a captivating read... You always seem to capture the heart of turmoil almost nonchalantly, but vividly... Thrummingly penned...

I got tensed as I read this, you have brought alive several emotions together and they connect with one another well enough

Thank you Cascara :)
People in this world are so busy running around trying to accomplish too many things and adults become auto pilot and forget to enjoy the beauty around them

Thank you hon :)
I love the idea of using Pyschometry to devine the right and wrongs in society. It has happened before. Have we learned? Much, much more in this wonderful write of course.

Yes, this build in feeling and intensity
just like our world spinning out of our control
into a limbo of questions, unrest, and unknown
meanings.
You have captured it here.

My pleasure 😊
I have been asking the question for many years. "Does one life or any life had value.
we have dissolved into nothingness
yet we are everything in-between
we tread within a limbo of sorts
faith is weakened if not void"
The above lines is a question that need a lot of coffee and time to discuss. I believe every life had value. I was worthless till my children were born and today. I teach the grandchildren. Be kind and lead with concern. What is life? What is nature? Maybe we are just here to make the world a better place? Thank you Poppy for sharing the excellent poetry..
