Darkness

A Poem by Poseidon

Experience I had when dealing with a loved one and a major life event.

Thought today was going to be like any other

Until I got the call

Words escape my memory

The emotions however do not

Hesitation mixed with intense grief

Sobs, Stutters, Sadness

All beckon me forward

Rules seemed to fall to the wayside

Only one thing became important

Thoughts race in 360’s

No solution in sight

I arrive at her door step

Heart running double time

I come in to find you on the couch

Tears staining everything around you

Cheeks, Shirt, Wine Glass

The sadness permeates the room

Enveloping all within reach

My first instinct is to make contact

I wrap her up tightly in my arms

I can feel pieces starting to slip away

I can’t hold them together

It’s overwhelming

I look for words to fix what has happened

No combination of phrases bring reason

All I can hope to do

Is send my positive energy to her

But my light is swallowed by this darkness

This darkness will never leave

But day by day it will recede

How could one critique such heartfelt anguish?
You leave a few pieces open for the reader to transfer their own darkness.

Well done. The pain within this piece is so strong. Your emotions bleed in this piece. The inability to console in times of grief leave us empty wanting to help, but when you are connected to the loss, it is near impossible.

This feels to be a release of anger and pain in the real world and not just a poetic piece.
