Autumn sunflowers and sandpipers

Autumn sunflowers and sandpipers

A Poem by Patricia Wedel
"

Hummingbirds are drawn to sips of nectar in the center of a sunflower...

"

As sandpipers on wing leave shadows of smiles
spread among the dunes of warm sand...
Pumpkins are cut to bring the light of smiles
as children return to school with summer memories

Sunflowers bloom in tall eloquence against an
autumn sky of geese flying in formation to
warmer climes where hurricanes have spent their
time with floods and high winds causing pain and strife

Neighbors helping neighbors with gifts of love
pumpkin pies and slow cooked meals on wheels
Apple pies and warm fires with hot cocoa and friends
gathering for a season of grace and thanksgiving...

Yellow roses gathered and placed with autumn leaves
in colors of nutmeg and persimmon fruit on a table
with candles lit to begin the season of forgiveness and
reconciliation among our friends around the world...

                                  Fine

Amen

Your poems touch us all on deeper and more spiritual levels. Their beauty shine in our darkest hours. The call to appreciate all humanity, all seasons, all nature is resoundingly true. An ancient saying goes:
"Instead of cursing darkness, light up candles."

Fine and Amen indeed ...such a heart watering mix of all things fall and life ...the coming together after the storms is a precious time slot for human beings in America this year ...as politics rips and tears as much as hurricanes, after the storms we heal ourselves with generosity and care ...pity politics hasn't learned such things yet :(

Brilliant Autumnal imagery in this poem. Your brushstrokes of vivid color warm us and delight us. “A season of grace and hanksgiving”-yes. Your sunflowers rise like a prayer of hope for the world. Beautiful form, flow, cadence, rhyme. Love this Pat.

With many tragedies in the news & often the expression of widespread sadness in many poems here, I just knew I needed to read this one from you in my read request list. It's exactly the remedy I needed from the gloom! I just love the way you see the world around you & express the delightful details like a dance of joy. I love the blending of natural beauty & the goodness of humanity -- these are much needed reminders in our world of strife & multiple tragedies. Keep spreading your awesome style of HOPE (((HUGS)) Fondly, Margie
