Choking

Choking

A Poem by PrimeCheesecake

Here we are in the dark corners
Of the concrete world
Look up, look around.
Nothing.
Nothing but these Skyscrapers
Towering above all
Like tyrants.
The buildings bend over us
They watch our every move.
Noise. Hustle. People. Cars.
They are nothing.
But their presence is choking me.
I turn around trying to find my way out
The Skyscrapers don't approve.
They're choking me.
Air escapes my lungs
The wind is knocked out of me
Am I dying? I can feel the pain...
As I watch my breath rising,
I see it travels toward a light.
The light contains warmth,
birds... bees...
Leaves from trees...
I believe I have found my freedom.

My freedom...

I lay on this cold asphalt,
My warmth and breathe leaking out.
People surround me,
"Are you okay?"
"Call the ambulance!"
They say...

Don't save me.
I've finally found my freedom.

Wow. What an incredibly powerful piece. When I first began reading, I saw the poem as a commentary on our relationship with machines and technology. But as I kept reading, the message became far more poignant and intense. Really surprising and amazing write.
