You're Not Here

You're Not Here

A Poem by Simon Welsh

I remember your dress of red and black
the scarlet angels above a sea of darkness
Still it stands out in my waking thoughts
when you wear those colours
you're slowly drifting away from me

I want to be joyous but you're not here
I still dream of scarlet fields
but it's all lost in the black
I want to be joyous but you're not here
You're not here anymore

But these crimson clouds refuse to lift
the green eyed devil is waiting in the grey
Still I stand in my circle of uncertainty
maybe I could smile if you gave me some hope
because I refuse to allow my heart to bleed

I want to laugh at all our memories
but still dream of your regal crimson dress
and it's lost in the black
I want to be joyous but you're not here
You're not here anymore

A lot of hues in this one...and you know what they say about colors, metaphorically speaking, right? Colors are the keys to our emotions; as sensory beings we unconciously ascribe colors to our emotions. Personally, when I think of scarlet or red, I instantly feel the pulsing and yearning pangs of desire. This was a clever write. I think you could edit out a few lines...such as the last line in the second stanza (it's a bit repetitive), but overall this was quite nice.
