Unconditional Devotion

Unconditional Devotion

A Poem by Bethany Woody

Bound at every turn by shackles of fear

Lies sealed through so many tears

Lost yet pursuing the end

Fighting for the chance to be lied to again.

Rest with me, I'll comfort you

I live and die for you

Abide with me and I vow to you

I will never forsake you.

Yet by your omission

And a bit of my permission

I hurt repeatedly

And bleed my tears heatedly.

Rest with me, I'll comfort you

I live and die for you

Abide with me and I vow to you

I will never forsake you.

No matter your lack of honesty

No matter your hypocrisy

Any time you ask it of me

I will freely bleed.

Rest with me, I'll comfort you

I live and die for you

Abide with me and I vow to you

I will never forsake you.

I had to read this a couple times as I looked deep into you intriguing words as I finally got the sense of someone who is barely hanging on to a love that continually takes them for granite but just when they are ready to let go the person does just enough to keep them there. Your words made me think and I like that in poetry.

Your poem speaks the truth that probably most all of us gals have faced or are facing. We so much want to do whatever it takes to hide the painful reality of being taken for granted. Of loving much more than we are loved in hopes of him changing. Thanks for the powerful words - an eye opener.

the one sidedness you reveal between two hearts is very captivating...surrendering our hearts to another, we undergo a vulnerability which as the layers are peeled away exposes a defenselessness that can deepen the pain inflicted by another...your emotion behind the thought is very evident and the reader is able to make a connection with your words...VERY WELL WRITTEN!

"Rest with me, I'll comfort you
I live and die for you
Abide with me and I vow to you
I will never forsake you."

your repetitive vow of devotion strengthens the poem nicely...

I loved this. Felt like it truly came from the heart. Words that need to be heard by someone. The message of unending commitment comes across sound loud and clear. I think your words convey more than just emotions they speak of a purity of one's love and devotion. It is great to read your words again.

ya, I too had to read it a couple times.. to makes sure i understood each words meaning and their appropriate interpretation. The message, of being a tale of a relationship barely hanging on, with ones full devotion and anothers ungratefulness to see what they have, touches in a unique way an all to familiar situation. title.. suggestions.. hmmmm.. "Ungrateful Lover" is what comes to mind first. or the opposite end of the spectrum, since its through the voice of the one who's love is being taken for granted. "Holding On", "Holding on to Love".. hmmm.. just brainstorming and throwin them out, hoepfully one will cause some inspiration, "Unconditional Devotion"... I hope i helped

much love n' respect
