Nothing Ever Truly Lasts

Nothing Ever Truly Lasts

A Poem by Querida

Only hallowed spiders could spin

such silken webs as likely to hold

as they are to fall

Like the deception of a friend

lies catch by mistakes in something

that seems safe.

Time passes swiftly in a golden world

where dull brass hides behind

the shimmer of leaf

How can something as exalted in perfection

as friendship's steady lasting bond

fall to pieces?

Simple words answer simpler questions

but they are cloaked so carefully by the

black stain of treachery

How can the world continue its cycles

when despair threatens to rip apart

the souls of man?

Bright colors distinguish far too clearly

those whose cheerfully happy lifestyle

conflicts with reason.

When darkness gains a healthy glow

and shadows spread that we know

Time is over to prepare

and death has risen to heaven's dare

The world shall end and time cease to pass.

Nothing ever truly lasts.
