My Love and the Rain

        ~حبيبتي والمطر*

I wrote You…
since that day
when I inhaled
the Jasmine scent
blossoming with the rain
sensational like
the womanhood's warmth
my young heart
was forever taken
with the first kiss
of raindrops
tingling upon my bare skin
and I knew since then
I'm but the wanderer
within the folds of adoration
and women's realms

I wrote You...
with each breeze
wafted over my senses
made me shiver with words
dripping love to my papers
I made You my land
My Damascus
I wrote You
My Love...
even when
I was searching for You
in each woman's face
in each coffee cup
in each word

I wrote You...
and my waiting for You
has been for so long
my pens and notebooks
my poems that I filled
with deep longings
and my tender voice
still all, they yearn
they ache
their icon to print
between the lines
pleading spaces
needing Your touch

I wrote You...
alone You...
and still I write
though my pain rises
over the beauty of all my poems
and rages
over all the cities and oceans
they stole You from me
a white flower
and stole the beat of my pen
my bliss from my ever
thirsty lips

I wrote You...
and I will write...
over each new paper
You are
a renewed poem
eternally
my pen's love
my beloved on earth
my beloved in the sky.

'I wrote You... ~ with each breeze ~ wafted over my senses ~ made me shiver with words ~ dripping love to my papers ~ I made You my land .. '

This is blisfully beautiful, beautifully sad.. the longing, the love, the need so specifically hinted at or tendely inferred.

There really are the gently but cleverly put influences of past, yet they lay very smoothly almost easily brefore the reader's eyes. The use of language is almost magical.

Thank you so much for sharing your delightful words.. sad or not, they leave a lovely imprint.

I love Nizar Qabbani and his work. Your poem is so beautiful and so romantic. I cried when I heard him recite Balqis for she was a martyr killed by evil someone to silence him.

I agree with Annette, this sounds like a tragic story of a love so deep yet ripped away before its fruition could grow. Deeply saddening and well written.

Lovely image, poem and music. Eloquent, romantic, passionate words and journey. I am not familiar with Nizar Qabbani, but your words seem to depict a tragic yet transcendent love story. Beautiful form and phrasing, emotional and passionate flow. “My pain rises over the beauty of all my poems”- such feeling in each line. Magnificent, Master-Class work!
