A Poem by Raef C. Boylan

I will never be

a bohemian’s

prize-f**k;

too big

and too ugly.

This used to upset me.

Add now to that list

too uptight.

Jim Carroll

would not consider

me a catch.

Each time I think

I’ve learned to

live with that,

introspection

jitterbugs with

lust and other

irrationals;

the clashing colours

are an assault

upon whatever

I’m supposed

to stand for.

I stand for nothing

any more –

except little old ladies

on public transport,

who’ve had more experience.

In every sense.

Once, I was

deluded enough

to believe

I could share something

that doesn’t even

belong to me.

Well C., at least you have a spectacular mind :D
Being a prize-f**k doesn't even seem all that great.

Alright, in all seriousness...
I really liked the piece.
Especially the part where you say that when you
think you've accepted something you get
all these "irrationals" lurking in your mind.
And the free-fall creativeness totally works for you :D
And this:

Once, I was
deluded enough
to believe
I could share something

that doesn't even
belong to me.

I REALLY liked, it left me thinking,
that's probably why :D

Totally immersing use of description to uncover a more visceral and in this case personal path to a concept that is so abstract yet so important to us all.

There is such a degree of vitality in here...someone who finally compromiseswith being who he is...yet there are back lashes, rewind pauses...wonderful...

I adore this poem..simply adore it.. We are enough for ourselves, if we could only get past "them".. Such deep meaning to this piece.. Well done:-)

I've been thinking about you these last few days. Hadn't seen you around for a while . . . it's no surprise I would come back to your words.

aw, dear. I was never the pretty girl. Never the girl that boys talked to for my sake. I was a go-between of sorts for girls they liked better. I was tall and awkward and plain. Still am. Add to that those extra stores of fat that come to gals of my age especially after having gone through pregnancy a few times . . . I'll never be that woman that we all aspire to be.

But what I am, . . . is sometimes more

I love this too, if you couldn't tell.
