Cataclysm

Cataclysm

A Poem by Nicholas Antonio Young
"

This is about how events in life can either utterly destroy you, or shape you into someone even stronger, the choice being yours and only yours.

"
The earth erupts, displaying its red-hot rage
It consumes all, leaving only a river of flames
The skies start to blacken, the winds begin to rise
They tear away anything standing, like a grim reaper's scythe
The ocean's waves crash, a furious blue spectrum
Like a freezing black hole, swallowing everything around them

The most rapid change
The death of the age
This is the end
The countdown from ten
This is mass destruction
This is the cataclysm

There is no time for regrets
This is where you take the first step
Will you stay and corrode in the acid rain?
Or will you move forward, break your past's chains?
This is the instant where only one thing matters
The choice to die with the past, or live to face the future

The most rapid change
The death of the age
This is the end
The countdown from ten
This is mass destruction
This is the cataclysm

You can enter the unknown blackness
And emerge victorious
You can trace the past's ruins
And only have more questions
Step through, and from the ashes be renewed
Don't hesitate, let your courage guide you

This is the start of a new age
The dawn of a new day
This is this beginning
Your new life waiting
For after the cataclysm's annihilation
Is the world's reformation

Interesting contrasts: destruction and life, annihilation and reformation, fire and darkness. It is, indeed, good if we can learn and benefit from life's disasters. Especially living in this chaotic, violence-filled, world, most of us yearn for something better. And God's promise of a better future is what fuels many religions and provides an emotional anchor for many. It's interesting how you physically constructed the poem, each verse of six lines, and alternating between short and long verse. It's well-written.

you know, this is completely true! I've seen both sides of the spectrum, people who choose the "reformation," and people who do not. The way you write your lyrics makes it really relatable to the readers and I'd love to be able to hear them put to music!
