Words Written

A Poem by Rain
"

Why I write the way I do.

"
I write my songs about lost loves
dreams that might have been
memories of summer nights
stories with a bitter end
my words are written about the past
sometimes it's hard to explain
They are who I am and what I feel
I find beauty hidden in the pain
I can't write about happy times
even though I've had my share
I am a poet of the down highway
of lost souls who wander there
I guess I got a ways to go
I guess I ain't quite grown
I hold on to misery
to the pain I've always known
Maybe someday I'll change my style
write a different song
Maybe someday it all will fit
I'll be someone..I'll finally belong
But for now my words
tell the story of me
all that I've seen
in my quest to be free

you are right, your words may seem tragic but they are beautiful because the are REAL, like you.. trust me no one reads your work and thinks "oh he is so ho-hum" because you always have something interesting and wise to say thru a life that's seen many things... it makes me want to live, maybe not the same experiences you've had, but the depth of your experience.

I have been on a search to find something of yours that I have not read and it seems that I just hit paydirt. Not sure how I let this one slip by me but it is great Ray. I love your style of writing as everyone else here does as well. The pieces of your life that you share are always written so well and hold your readers attention from beginning to end. Your lines about not quite fitting remind me of something I wrote of myself. Great as always my friend.

Hugs,
Lesa

Cynicism is in a poet's blood. It's one area in life where darkness can many times prevail. I understand this and felt this write deeply. Nice work. WIll be back for more.

Misery is more well remembered than happiness, because it isn't as fleeting.
If someone tells you that they love you...you smile, then you forget about it. If someone tells you that you have a bump in your nose, you carry that with you for the rest of your life.

This explains very well why you write and what you feel when you write. I can very much so relate to this. Not wanting to change my style of writing because I haven't let go yet. Very nice piece! Adding to meh library.
Good luck in my competition!

Words of hurt always seem to flow so much easier. Writing with tears seems to keep the pen filled with ink.

I work on makin' lookin' back a time of soft sweet joy
Those other times wuz sum wun else. a crazy lovin' boy
Present tense is fine for me
It works for wilder beings
And tense is all that ever was
for other wilder things

I find this to be so true, the good seems so fleeting, sadness sits more familiarly upon my shoulders. You said it for all of us.
