just the way life be

just the way life be

A Poem by Rain
"

Just writing. Excuse the improper English. I write how I feel, and that's how I felt. No deep hidden message...

"
everybody answers to somebody
i answer to me
i'm harder on myself
than anybody else could be
been in love ?
yea, a time or two..
ever felt heart break...
yep, how bout you...
everyone stands alone
in lifes pourin' rain
everyone's got their own umbrella
their own way to hide from pain
i've been on that shadowy highway
lookin for someplace to rest
i've laughed when i felt like cryin
i think that's just the way life be...i guess

there's an ocean of memories
i've gathered along the way
some of them i've forgotten
others linger on to make me pay
there's some streets i've walked
i'd love to walk again
places and faces locked in my heart
good times come on you...now and then
i've passed over alot of walls
i've often failed to do my best
kinda just the way it goes
i think it's just the way life be...i guess

somedays i feel so strong
like nothing can get to me
other times when i wake up
i'm about as lost as i can be
it all seems to have a beat
like a song that won't go way
get dressed...do my best
live my life day to day
i think all i really know
what i've learned more or less
try to give more than you take
i think it's just the way life be... i guess

I agree with David - you have a fantastic sense of rhythm, and you certainly know how to use it!

"there's an ocean of memories

This is a great metaphor, and it's something I can picture easily; memories are so hard to push to the back of your mind when they decide to come out, and you've captured this well.

Good job! xo

Beautifully put. I can relate so much. We all have our ways to hide our pain, like our own umbrella, its so true. I don't know whhy but those lines meant alot for me.

It's a heartfelt poem. It's very unspecific and can appeal to so many people and so many different things. I enjoyed it.

You have a very good sense of rhythm, and your offbeat style really works in this poem. As the philosophy of a natural man, many would agree with your sentiments. However, regardless of the fact that you state we should 'Excuse the improper English', I do feel that you should capitalize the pronoun 'I', because I find it rather distracting. Perhaps that's just me! e.e. cummings seemed to make a meal of avoiding capitals, but my own predilection is that we should honour our language, one of the most beautiful - and certainly the most poetic - language in the world. I always capitalise the first word of each line, and use punctuation, because it affects how the item is read.
You need to look at - 'every felt heart break?' - should be 'ever'. Also, when you drop a letter to indicate a slang or lazy delivery, such as 'pourin' - you really need the apostrophe to indicate the missing letter. Pourin', cryin', are examples from above.
I really like the poem, it's honest and heartfelt, but I do believe that it would come over better if the basic rules of grammar were applied. (I know that many 'modern' writers will feel that I'm a stick in the mud, but when I look at what's happening to our language in text messaging on cell phones, I really fear for the future of English).
David.

You said it right. lol Some days we feel like we can take on the world... others it's difficult just to get out of bed. Good times, bad times... that's just the way life be... I guess. ;)

I have to agree with Tim ... it's not so much what we've done as it is what we've done with what we've learned. So many levels to travel there though. Nothing is black and white.

Thought provoking.. and well expressed write Ray. One most can relate to.

A pleasure to read... thank you :)

You certainly captured the ups and downs of life... it lie a roller coaster, you can't stop it and sometimes it seems to move slowly and other times it moves so fast... plenty of twists and turns so in the end we just do the best we can.

Oh Rain. This reads like a song. I can almost picture you walking down a back dirt road, way out on a country lane, contemplating life. We all have roads we enjoyed traveling and others that have given us regrets. But you said it best when you said give more than you take. You made me smile and you made me sad. Thanks for sending me to review.

This is one that everyone will associate with Ray. I think anymore that everyone has to live their life from day to day. I know we have some really nasty rumors flying that they are going to be cutting all the pays where Hersh works. Won't be pretty around here for awhile if they do that. LOL

"i think all i really know what i've learned more or less try to give more than you take i think its just the way life be... i guess. All we can really do is try to live our lives the best we can and hope for the best. Great ending to this write.

Hugs,
Lesa
