Yes Momma

Yes Momma

A Poem by Ranger Nadaly

There's no such thing as an easy childhood

Momma told me.

I'm so glad I had you

Momma told me.

Church is home,

And you're the sun that wakes me up every mornin'

Momma told me.

I felt I knew her,

Better than I knew anything.

I loved her more than I loved myself.

Daddy pretended not to know,

Using his hours away from home

As a reason not to.

Cotton hands is on his way home,

Momma told me.

She loved daddy,

She loved teasing him just as much.

What did I do?

I told momma.

I told her ten times.

Road to hell is payed with good intentions.

Momma told me.

She told me once.

RN, This poem is so raw and stripped of all baubles and bangles, with many questions left unanswered (like what are the 'cotton hands' all about?) When you end the piece with "Momma told me, she told me once." It's such an abrupt and powerful way to end a piece. I've never done this before; this is the first time I'm going to take the first write I've read of a WC member and put it into my library favorites. Just a shining star of a write! take care...dan

I love this poem. I love my mother very much and if I wrote something on her, it would take forever, because she's such a wonderful woman. Great work. Keep writing!
