In Failure's Shadow

In Failure's Shadow

A Poem by Raven Starhawk

Chirping crickets sing a melancholic song

Through weaves of grass so green, mystery finds much wrong

Hearts that harden always say goodbye

Under midnight's moon I realize it was all a lie

Perhaps one day true love might find its way

Winter's kiss puts silence on the day

Father twists truths to spare Mother pain

But revelation will come in rain

On my pillow tragic droplets fall
Cherry wishes surrender my call

Future success weights with grief

Floating downward in a spiral are my dreams on a leaf

Someday this nightmare might release me

Someday I might find a way to be free
