Modern Day Snow White

Modern Day Snow White

A Poem by Soul Fire
"

A poem about how I felt when I woke up after my major surgery.

"
You've been released from an anesthesia spell.
Entering the real world, from a thousand year sleep.
You open your eyes and start to speak.
You wake up inside a white room,
Nurses around.
You look around and touch your neck.
You see these machines and think ''What the heck?''
Beeps surround you,
Parents no where to be seen.
Stickers on your chest, monitoring your heart.
The Moonlight glistens in beside you through the windows where the blinds spread apart.
You lie there waiting  for the pain to end,
Waiting for your parents to take you home again.
You feel a sensation to burp,
But a burp it was not.
Here you go lifting yourself up,
and hurl over the side of the bed.
Your tummy takes you on a wild ride.
Fresh from surgery you're already moving well.
So much so, The nurses look at you like ''What the hell?''
They clean you up,
Like no big deal,
They compliment you like you just invented the wheel.
They tell you they'll let your parents in soon,
Your so happy you nearly fly to the moon.
They finally let your parents in.
It's been 9 hours since you've seen them last.
You cannot move or turn your head to see their faces,
They rush in to see you and all you have to say is ''What's up?''
There hearts must be running races.
They finally stand infront of your bed,
You manage to move your head
You look at them, and time seems to freeze.
It's moments like these that feel like they last forever.
This reuion is not like any other,
But all you care about is that now you're together.
You start to joke around like old times'
Entertaining your folks with your drug indused humour and all your sprite fire jokes.
Throwing them a curve ball with every line,
It's almost like the good old times.
The minutes start to race by,
The clock sends your parents home.
Here you are sitting in pain, alone again.
Reconsidering the decision you made.
You can't go back now,
The deed has been done.
You press your morphine pump and hope for relief.
Pray to God, and keep your belief.
You hold on,
And stay strong,
Like you always do.
Holding on to your faith,
and your belief in believing in YOU!
''So hold on beautiful ''
You sing under your breathe.
''Hold on beautiful.''
You whisper so soft.
''Stay Strong Beautiful,
Not all is lost.''
''You'll get through this, beautiful''
''Better than anyone else.''
''Stay strong beautiful.''
''You can do this.''
''Stay strong beautiful.''
''You'll get through this, like you always do.''
''Remember beautiful, I believe in you.''
