Punch my Alpaca Please

Punch my Alpaca Please

A Chapter by Raymond Federle
"

Our tangents are free range and they tend to run wild around here.

"

Now don't get me wrong, I do not condone

cruelty to creatures great or small.

But this damn thing's a pain, it's hurting my brain.

Punch my alpaca please.

The damn thing spits and it stinks.

It kicks and it bites and it drinks.

A drunken alpaca?...Oh golly geeze.

Punch my alpaca please.

The alpaca don't know what it is.

A camel, or llama's a wiz.

They're tasty on bread, Andean indians said,

Punch my alpaca please.

But the damn thing is cute even when rude,

Doesn't say "God bless you." when you sneeze.

I try and try to be a nice guy,

But punch my alpaca please.

I do have a black sense of humour and the joy I took in this piece proves it. Funny stuff, Raymond.

Hahah cute read, I don't think I'd go there, you're on your own!

These words remind me of how I felt about my tortoise! I have never seen an alpaca, but I can imagine what they are like from this poem of yours, Raymond. You have described it very well, and yet you haven't described it at all. The subtle way that the poem gets across the description of the animal is a good example of what I think a poem should be....that is, a form of communication made in an interesting way, that brings attention to the point we need to make. Well done on this one.
