Better Than This

I should have known you are just like me.
Failure's like home,
comfort in misery.
You should have known you are just like me.
You should have known your no better than me.

My mother is disabled,
so they give her too many pain killer pills.
That's how she feeds her addiction
and pays her f*****g bills.

I have no health insurance
and no job so I hit the streets.
I eat the pills too,
they make me feel complete :)

Until I run out..

What's good is not always right.
I tried to reconnect it all
but picked apart my whole life.

I should have known you are just like me.
Failure's like home,
comfort in misery.
You should have known you are just like me.
You should have know your no better than me.

I spoke to the mother
and I suffered thru the dad.
She said she was sorry
but he is all she ever had.

ICU suicidal inpatient,
were you so suicidilly impatient?
He's the son of the mother and dad
and he is all they ever had.

Now it is too late..

What's good is not always right.
They tried to reconnect it all
but picked apart they're whole life.

I've tried and tried.
You've tried and tried.
We've tried and tried,
to either find shortcuts or hide.
I've cried and cried.
You've cried and cried.
We've cried and cried.
We've all cheated and/or lied.
We just want to be satisfied.
Sometimes we must all just give in,
be something we can all confide in.
Be something we can all have pride in.

The whole f*****g world is at war,
but we were meant to live for so much more.
So f**k competition because there is something better
and it's called sticking together.

You should have known I am just like you.
Failure's like home
not knowing home is what's untrue.
We should have known there's more to life that exists.
We should have know we're so much better than th
is.

So simple, so profound, so sincere and so very heart touching. I admire how you try to relate, understand and compare. Though you find similarities in those you care I see your immense difference and attitude of wanting to pull it all together and be the same. Yet in your sameness is your difference, your success, your insight is magical and though I read despair I saw hope, I didn't see failure because I didn't see any one staying down but trying. Yes, it is so much better than this. The comfort I find in your story is it can only get better because it was so much worse. Things can only get up after hitting bottom.

Well there is a lot to think about here..as I read I thought about judgement..the kind we cast on ourselves for just being human .things happen ..we judge ourselves .. people fail..or do they just fail to believe that it is only humanity and perhaps the judgement is worse than the crime..anyhow it made me think.
poetry is supposed to do that and therefore this one works on that level. well done , interesting..painful and most of all human.

this so good - i really like this - yes it is repetitive in parts but it works - so much emotion in this piece

Although the meter is all over the place, I did find this an intriguing read.
The repetition works as well, I started to think perhaps this was a song.

My favorite phrase is "failure's like home", because it speaks to the helplessness that you must feel about the situation. It really got to me.

Keep writing,

JC
