Don't Feel Like Love

Don't Feel Like Love

A Poem by ReedWrite
"

A song, written in July 1997.

"

You assure me I am special,
That your love is strong and true,
And I cling to every word you speak,
Because it's what I need to hear from you.

Still I find myself wondering,
Does my heart out-think my mind,
Do I want you so badly,
That I've become love-blind?

Because lost opportunities, and nows and thens,
Unshared feelings--make it so hard--to believe

          Your casual indifference,
          And long lonely nights,
Unspoken conversations--are the only signs I see.
          Silent phones, and broken promises,
Left over moments---Don't feel like love to me.

Too many unresolved doubts,
Leave me far too sensitive,
And I know sometimes I need,
So much more than you can give.

I tell myself I'm a fool,
Victim to my own insecurities,
And I just keep holdin' on--to--us,
Trusting in a love I seldom see.

But empty arms, and 'someday soons',
And forgotten moments---Bring me to my knees

          Your casual indifference
          And long lonely nights,
Unspoken conversations--are the only signs I see.
          Silent phones, and broken promises,
Left over moments---Don't feel like love to me.

No, it don't feel like love to me.
Babe, it don't feel like love to me.

Author's Note

ReedWrite
Wrote this a long time ago...it's a song, actually, as are many of my poems.
When I am upset, or down, or working through issues, my first recourse has usually been to pick up my guitar and express those emotions through music...which leads to writing a song, usually.

Babe, it don't feel like love to me."
I liked the ending and I feel the song in the good words. Thank you my friend for sharing the excellent poetry.

The classic doubt written in fine form; I hear the sad sweet song echoing from your soul's core.

Thank you, Alfred.
It is sooo sad and melancholy. I could almost see and maybe hear you even crying as you wrote this.

What a beautiful outlet you have for your sadness. To account for unspoken conversations and broken promises.

Thank you for reading and reviewing, Dave.
The fact that you wrote this first as a song and played the guitar is somewhat is awesome and a bit sexy, if you don't mind my saying so. :D

I thoroughly enjoyed this poem. As a guy, I have been like this to girlfriends in the past but I usually did it unintentionally. I often feel I can't give women what they want in terms of being more emotional and talking about my feelings and such. It's very hard for me to let a woman in, so to speak.

Your poem is quite good and very effective as it reminded me of past relationships with decent and sweet women that I kind of ruined. This poem feels very heartfelt, emotional and genuine and sincere.

Very nice write, RW! :)

Thank you Najam. So glad you enjoyed it.
written in 97 but timelessly relevant!
You have such a dope lyrical pen Pam :) effortless, and the words feel like they come from a deep spring of emotion and truth. The best song writing comes from there, not always flowers and unicorns sometimes the pain needs to come up for air too. What better way than with a gat in hand or at the piano. Right at this moment its 0318 and I sit at my piano sorting s**t out over poetry and piano keys....haha. so I feel you! Hugs my gorgeous friend. R xo

This poem was outstanding. I can feel the emotions from each stanza. In all honesty, love is really scary to me and you seem to be able to handle it well.

OK Pam.... We just jinxed...

Does my heart out-think my mind,
Do I want you so badly,
That I've become love-blind?

Go read my new piece " Head Over Heels".. Lol.. it is the same point you made here in your piece... and I love how you expressed it... The way women especially tend to "put heart over head".. ignoring those red flags...because our heart overrules our better judgement.. Well written Pam.... Thank you for sharing!
