St. Valentines Day Massacre

St. Valentines Day Massacre

A Poem by Zeitgeist Manifesto
"

Save the Children

"

Children possess an infinite supply of love
that generates from only the gods know where
children only want love...to love and to be loved
there is nothing happier than a child
who knows they could not escape from love
even if they tried

That is why Valentine's Day is so special

But, this...like every other Valentine's Day...
a child will come home with a gift
from another child...
and their Parents will explain that:

"We Don't feel that way about "them"

and that...

Will be the beginning of a formal education
which destroys their innocence
cages their free spirits
and places them on a path
that only leads to never ending
suffering and conflict

This is how
you kill a child....

Save the children

Thanks for the rewiew.
Yes, and the parents probably got that tendency from their own parents. God knows how far back it began. Maybe in the caves.

It can change. I just hope people will find the will to do it.
I love the way how you started the sad twist. It's kinda painful yet meaningful.

Thanks for reading.
i have to agree with this as I see it in my own granddaughter who says I love you to me and never adds the caviot 'because' That because as she sees there is no need to add stats to back up her convictions

Interesting piece. I wonder if you have children of your own or if this is based on your own experience. Either way your poem brought some good food for my thinking. It reminded me that there are good ways to share the values you believe with your children and not force them into a mould. I do believe that it is the parents responsibility to educate. When the parents fail to share the virtues society will impose their vice.
Nurture or nature ..great poem. Thank you for making me think. :)

yep.. intolerance is a learned behavior.. this was very good.. I am sorry you feel that you need to keep is private.. it is an important message for all of us.. on every side.. there really is so much more that we have in common than that which we find different.. we are not enough generations away from the dark times and now they seem to be getting revived.. shame on us...

~~ ohhhhhh... you articulated something that needs to be articulated over and over again... ~~ this is how we take away the poetry in the lives of children and replace it with cynical prose... ~~ excellent work, dear rellis...

~~ oh... thank you, thank you... :P ~~ i was merely trying to be precise... :P
As a mother of two beautiful children I fear this all the time. I see how happy and untainted they are and its burns me to know the world will ruin my best work...

St. Valentines Day...
This is coming from an anti-Valentine's Day person, but I always tell people that it was a day of massacre. It is kind of messed up how it became a day for love, kisses, sex, etc. Now that I got that out of the way...

Such genuine and painful words, Manifesto. How ever did you come up with this? The intensity levels are high in this piece, and gets one on an emotional roller coaster. The way you sealed the poem was the final blow for me. A depressing piece indeed, and I am one for depressing poems.

I do not read many pieces such as this one. Be proud of it.

Thank you for sharing and touching hearts!
