GREY BALLOONS

GREY BALLOONS

A Poem by Rene Velez

Under a spotlight
stands the sad faced clown,
juggling on a balance beam,
above the scares and screams,

in simple eyes he moves
in minor leaps and bounds
to the right he astounds,
and the children amused

handing out grey balloons
with a blank stare, clown shoes
and silly hair, in whimsical song,
hands so small, tongue so long,

a fragile umbrella of protection
and brass horn for their attention,
under the spotlight stands a sad
faced clown, in a permanent
frown of black and brown.
