"

15th Century English Spelling Translation on bottom

"
At the ende
like a cniht,
hys swerd cut
acrosse a newe vein,
not baering fruyte,

Uppon hys forhede
a marke foreuer present,
a flouer of hys mistake,
goodnes in its redempcyon

fayth to take its leave
bytwene loue and creacyon,
fore highre werkes, gyuen
and puer,

to byleue but in a leef,
a moost valewed anker
of hys soul.

TRANSLATION:

At the end
like a Knight
his sword cut
across a new vein,
not baring fruit,

upon his forehead,
a mark forever present,
a flower of his mistake,
goodness in its redemption

faith to take its leave
between love and creation,
for higher works, genuine
and pure,

to believeue but in a leaf,
a most valued anchor
of his soul.
