SMALL MEN IN HIGH PLACES

SMALL MEN IN HIGH PLACES

A Poem by Rene Velez

Assist them onto the podium,
a leg up if you will, or a helping
hand, Short in stature, less
than half a man,

man child in a sandbox
potty mouth and dirty hands
left to their own device,
never taught to play nice,

men of no morals
or meaning of self sacrifice,
of paper and pen,
of mice and men,

fragile boys
with a penchant for war,
across the board, putting
a nation at risk, into an abyss,
with a child like decor.
