MEN SO CALLOUS

MEN SO CALLOUS

A Poem by Rene Velez

They have left the healers
with no hope, Sun from their eyes,
nothing of humanity left
in the veins,

many into a life of pain,
helplessness in the family dynamic,
most will panic waiting for the wave,

well engaged, they set the stage,
with temporary wages,
wide screens for the deaf and blind,
by design, by lack of spine,

and,
indifference waving from
the rafters, mighty,
words do not fall lightly
upon the sick and hungry,

validity in lies by casting ballots,
of well groomed hands,
of men so callous.
