NINE

NINE

A Poem by Rene Velez

They say it's the father
who creates you, but my
mother carried me.

Nine months in her
womb, morning sickness
and all, so I can be.

It says a lot about
a woman's strength, her
love like an heirloom.

Past down,
towing the line, the
lineage, soft and benign.
Doubt with little headroom.

Warmth and protection
as we stretch her skin.
Delivery...
A misconception
of when life begins

Cherish her resolve
and you, her origin,
like when we cried
and breathed our
first breath of oxygen.
