One Day

One Day

A Poem by Timothy Ryan

One day
One day, I won't have to put up with all of this s**t
Everything will be in order
And everything will be fine
One day

One day, when I'm a normal member of society
I'll have a car like the rest of you
Waiting at traffic lights
Smoking out of the windows, as the cool winds of night brush through my hair
With the radio singing to the world
When I'll only have to use my bike for exercise
Instead of my means of getting around
I'll drive by other bikers and think "Keep your head up. You'll get there."
One day

One day, when money doesn't determine my lifestyle
When I won't have to stress over if I have enough quarters to do laundry
I'll have an air-conditioner instead of sweating the days away
There will be real meals to eat
No more soon-to-be expired packages
Or microwave pizzas for dinner
One day

One day, when I have a job I love
I won't work on the holidays
I won't be a slave to someone else, because my life collapses without their support
I won't dread waking up in the morning
Or the end of my last day off
I won't fantasize about other opportunities
I'll find something that makes me smile
And it won't even feel like I'm working
One day

One day, when I move out of this apartment
There won't be anymore paint-chipped sides to my house
Or water-stained ceilings
I wont have to make an excuse about how old the building is
The arguments between neighbors won't travel through the walls
I won't have to worry about that bike being stolen at night
One day

One day, I'm gonna turn all of this around
I'll look back and laugh
Thinking about how far I've come
And how it was all worth it
One day.

The very day most of us strive to reach. Honestly and nicely expressed. Though I think that we're generally influenced by society's expectations too much and I hope that we all find this one day without being dependent on material stuff such as cars, etc. But believe me, I know the life you described but also a wealthier version of it and I was happier on my broke days than on the ones being spoiled with money and all the nice things that are buyable. Now I'm frequently somewhere in-between. Wealth solves a lot of daily life problems and it's definitely advantageous in this world but it makes shallow people and superficial minds.

This is a raw and real poem. Society has most young people thinking they must be a certain stage of their lives because what we see on the internet. I agree, gradually working towards goals and looking back is a blessing. Nice write

I really enjoyed reading this one. Its so real and sad how we have to really struggle these days. I don't know if this is true or not, but if it is, you will make it if you try hard one day! Nicely written.

One day you'll turn it all around and it will all be great or you'll realize grass isn't greener.
It's a great poem and I wonder if there's a hint of sarcasm in there. Anyway, lots of people ride bikes.
Cars are out of fashion. Biking is IN.
