Vices

A Chapter by Timothy Ryan

People do it for a lot of reasons
I have reasons of my own
But, they're not that bad

Is it depression?
No, it's not that
Has life s**t on me?
Absolutely

I've been dead broke
I've lost everything I had
I've seen better days
But, who hasn't?
I'm still alive and kicking

I wouldn't say it's my job, either
I bet that alone would be enough for most people, though
No overtime hours
Just enough time to steal your drive to wanna do anything else
Except for collapsing into laziness when you get home

Are my paychecks big?
Not really
Do they pay the bills?
Sometimes

I know what you're getting at
It's nothing in my everyday life
It's not my job
I'm not depressed
I don't have a problem

Here
Let me explain, so that it all makes sense
I'll tell you exactly the reason why I drink

She's about five-foot-four
With wavy black hair
Eyes that'll ruin your life
A tongue that never holds back...

...and sh works in the bar?

Wasn't meant as a cheap shot was more of an aside. We don't chose whom we love, just whom we like. AND we fall hard and far. The stars are just right there - above our heads ...just out of reach - ya know?
