LIFE'S SLAVES (we all are to something)

A Poem by Richard🖌
"

English [Shakespearean] Sonnet

"

L I F E ‘ S   S L A V E S
A vassal, thrall, or bondsman, true we are;
some say, “A servant, lackey, minion, drudge …
adherent, devotee, to some slave tsar!”
All serving something, throughout life we trudge.
It may be work or to some art we’re tied;
so many are addicted to a drug …
then, far too often ruled by some set guide
we follow blindly, like a mindless slug.
Too many slaves of cold brutality,
that marriage to the wrong one locks away;
seems no escape from such despondency
when dragged while shackled, to their sad dismay.

Chained tight to something … whether man’s or God’s,
we’re slaves, because we’re all bound to life’s odds.

We are all chained to something...such a piece. Not sure if I can even do it justice.
