In the Eyes of a Father

In the Eyes of a Father

A Poem by Rikkevi Rue
"

Tate inspired me to post this. Written for my son shortly after he was born. I was 27 years old. The purity of loves expression can be amazing.

"

May your eyes be green like your father’s are,

May your voice be clear and your hopes reach far,

May your heart be pure, your dreams high as stars,

Like those of your father are.

May you find a place for those that wronged,

In your hearts forgiveness ever strong,

And help them back up where they belong,

May you carry your father’s song.

May you leave a mark in this world so cold,

Of decency-bright, for all men to behold,

That stands forever proud and bold,

To shine when your father ‘s old.

May you find the will when your strength is lean,

To raise a family true and free,

And leave behind this hope and dream,

To a son whose eyes are green.

Sometimes our younger selves come back in black and white and we compare today to then and think thoughts. If I could just press a blessing onto that moment. For you, me, all of us. It's hard to be here. It's beautiful to be here. Your friend was right about you posting this. My thanks.

Absolutely stunning write. A poem to be handed down from one son to the next. Love how you've set it out and the flow is perfection. Read this twice, which for me is kinda rare. Glad I got the chance to see this.

I love the ending as we all would want them to look and act like us nothing like seeing yourself in the face of a child

I love the way this reaches out to your son and offers a father's guidance in the world. A father-son connection. Lovely!

Very nice, love it.
Your son will read this when he gets older and know what love really is..

"May you leave a mark in this world so cold,
Of decency-bright, for all men to behold,"

I can only add one line from a Bob Dylan song.

" May you have a strong foundation, when the winds of changes shift"

And your son most certainly does, he has this poem as a guide.
